Have you ever felt overwhelmed by emotions that you just cannot seem to explain? Sometimes, we feel a heaviness in our chest or a racing in our mind, but when someone asks “What is wrong?” we go blank. This is a very normal human experience. Words are powerful, but they have limits. When you reach the edge of what you can say, creative healing offers a bridge to cross over into relief and understanding.
In this guide, we will explore what this method actually is, why it works so well for those feeling stuck, and how you can start using it today.

There is a big myth that you need to be an “artist” to benefit from art. That is simply not true. Creative healing is not about painting a masterpiece to hang in a museum. It is not about skill, technique, or making something that looks beautiful.
Instead, it is about using creative tools—like paint, clay, movement, or collage—to move energy out of your body. It is the practice of listening to your heart through your hands. When you engage in creative healing, the goal is the feeling of release you get while doing it, not the object you make at the end.
Science tells us that trauma and deep emotional pain often live in the right side of our brains. This is the side responsible for images, intuition, and feelings. However, speech lives in the left side, the logical side.
This is why you can talk about a problem for hours but still feel the same pain. You are using logic to try and fix an emotion. Creative healing works because it speaks the native language of your right brain. It uses colours, shapes, and symbols to process feelings directly, bypassing the need for words entirely.
Starting something new can feel vulnerable. In my practice, I focus on creating a container of safety before we ever pick up a paintbrush. We do not dive into deep trauma. We start by building a foundation of trust and relaxation.
We believe that true healing happens when your nervous system feels calm enough to let go. Whether we are tearing paper or moulding clay, every step is designed to help you feel supported and seen.

If you are curious, here are three simple modalities we often explore.
1. Collage for Clarity Sometimes our minds feel cluttered. Collage is amazing because you do not have to draw anything. You simply choose images that call to you and arrange them. It allows your subconscious to show you what you are truly focusing on.
2. Clay for Grounding When anxiety makes you feel like you are floating away, heavy, earth-based clay helps bring you back down. The physical act of squeezing and pounding the clay releases tension and anger safely.
3. Fluid Art for Control For those of us who need to control everything, using fluid paints or watercolours teaches us to surrender. You have to let the water move the pigment. It is a beautiful lesson in letting go.

You do not need to buy expensive supplies to start. You just need curiosity. However, doing this work in a community can be incredibly powerful. It helps to have a guide to hold space for you while you explore.
Creative healing is at the core of all my work, where beginners are always welcome.*

Remember, your creativity is a birthright. It is not something you have to earn or learn. It is already inside you, waiting to help you heal.
